EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken around the turn of the 20th century, captures a moment in time as the Swedish Royal Family, led by King Oscar II, gathered for a family portrait. The image, held in the Nordic Museum's collection, showcases the grandeur and elegance of the era's aristocracy. King Oscar II, dressed in a formal suit and adorned with a decorative Order of the Seraphim collar, sits proudly in the center, surrounded by his wife, Queen Sofia, and their children. The eldest son, Crown Prince Gustaf (V), stands to his right, dressed in a military uniform, while his younger brother, Prince Carl, wears a more casual outfit. Princess Ebba, the eldest daughter, is depicted in a beautiful, flowing dress, holding her younger sister, Princess Margaretha, on her lap. The other children, including Princes Oscar, Eugen, Erik, and Wilhelm, are also present, dressed in formal attire befitting their royal status. The family's pets, a dog and a pony, add an element of playfulness to the formal scene. The photograph is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the Swedish monarchy during this period, offering a glimpse into the lives of the aristocracy and their fashionable clothing and accessories. The image is a valuable addition to any collection of European royal history or art, and serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of the Nordic region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
