AROUND THE COBB AT LYME REGIS

It depicts the Lyme Regis B Class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat The Spirit of Loch Fyne around The historic Cobb, which has been destroyed or severely damaged by storms several times since 1377. When a bad storm in 1817 damaged the Cobb, it was virtually rebuilt using local Portland stone. The Lyme Regis lifeboat was originally established in 1825 by Coastguard Captain Richard Spencer and in 1826 was brought under the auspices of the RNLI. Lyme Regis Lifeboat Station has a rich history of lifesaving, and its crews have been presented with 20 awards for gallantry.
