True-color image of Tortola and its smaller neighbors, Guana Island, Grand Camanoe

September 17, 2005 - True-color image of Tortola and its smaller neighbors, Guana Island, Grand Camanoe, and Beef Island. The islands follow a roughly southwest-northeast trajectory. Gray-beige urbanized areas cling to the coast while Tortols interior remains mostly green, an arrangement driven by the islandsas topography. The biggest settlement fringes Road Bay. A straight line crossing Beef Island gives away the location of a small airport.
The Lesser Antilles island chain separates the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Part of that island chain consists of the Virgin Islands, some governed by the United States, and some by the United Kingdom. Of the British Virgin Islands, the largest is Tortola. Tortols origins are volcanic, and the island consists of a chain of rugged hills. With an elevation over 500 meters, the islands highest point, Mt. Sage, is also the highest point in the British Virgin Islands

EDITORS COMMENTS
This true-color image captures the stunning beauty of Tortola and its neighboring islands, Guana Island, Grand Camanoe, and Beef Island. Taken on September 17,2005, this photograph showcases the unique topography and vibrant colors that define these Caribbean gems. Tortola's lush green interior stands in stark contrast to the gray-beige urbanized areas hugging its coastline. This striking arrangement is a direct result of the island's rugged hills and volcanic origins. The highest point in both Tortola and the entire British Virgin Islands is Mt. Sage, standing tall at over 500 meters. As we explore this image further, our eyes are drawn to Road Bay - the largest settlement on Tortola - which fringes along its coast. A straight line crossing Beef Island reveals the presence of a small airport nestled within these picturesque surroundings. The Lesser Antilles island chain serves as a natural barrier between the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Within this chain lie various islands governed by either the United States or United Kingdom; Tortola being part of the latter group. This print from Stocktrek Images transports us to an idyllic paradise where nature reigns supreme. It invites us to marvel at Tortola's untouched landscapes while appreciating its position within one of Earth's most enchanting archipelagos – a testament to Mother Nature's artistic prowess.
