The scene unfolds in the Old Town Square of Prague, then the capital city of the Bohemian Kingdom in the Austrian Habsburg Empire. The image is filled with a palpable sense of anger and defiance as Bohemian Protestants, outraged by the destruction of two of their churches by Catholic authorities, hurl two royal officials out of the windows of the Hradčany Castle.
