EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite artwork of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, an Italian Venetian painter and printmaker. Titled "Diana, 1757" this piece was created using pen with wash on paper as part of a design for a fresco in the Villa Valmarana near Vicenza, Italy. Tiepolo's artistic talent extended beyond Italy, as he also worked in Germany and Spain. He received numerous commissions to create magnificent frescoes for churches and palaces throughout his career. In addition to these large-scale works, Tiepolo also excelled in etchings and oil paintings. Considered one of the most significant artists of his time, Tiepolo's skill is evident in this illustration from "The Drawings of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo". The volume was authored by Detlev Baron Von Hadeln and published by The Pegasus Press in Paris in 1928. In this particular image, Diana, the Roman goddess associated with hunting and nature, takes center stage. Her divine presence is beautifully captured through delicate lines and shading techniques employed by Tiepolo. This monochrome depiction exudes elegance while highlighting the artist's mastery over form and composition. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece from centuries past, we are reminded of Tiepolo's enduring legacy as a revered artist who left an indelible mark on both religious artistry and mythology-inspired creations.
