One innovative appliance design that emerged from these changes was this redesigned and converted single-decker bus, which served as a Major Incident Control Unit (CU) at the Brigade Headquarters in Lambeth. The bus, which dates back to 1977, was transformed by the London Fire Brigade workshops into a state-of-the-art command and control center. Its enhanced communications and conference facilities enabled operational officers from the LFB operations room to effectively manage and coordinate responses to large fires and other major incidents. The aerial view of the bus, with its roof adorned with various antennas and equipment, showcases the extensive modifications made to the vehicle. The interior was fitted with advanced technology and comfortable seating arrangements to accommodate the incident management team. The conversion of this bus into a Major Incident Control Unit marked a significant step forward in the London Fire Brigade's ability to respond effectively to major emergencies. The unit was staffed by operational officers from the LFB operations room, who monitored and attended major incidents from this mobile command center. This photograph, taken in the late 1970s, offers a unique glimpse into the innovative designs and adaptive nature of the London Fire Brigade during a time of transition and progress.
