EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the grace and elegance of the de Havilland DH.94 Moth Minor, registration G-AFPN (msn 94016, formerly X9297), in its prime during the late 1960s or early 1970s. The Moth Minor, a two-seat, open-cockpit biplane, was a popular design produced by the de Havilland Aircraft Company between 1934 and 1938. This particular aircraft was one of 1,100 built and is noted for its distinctive rounded wings and streamlined fuselage. The Moth Minor was a favorite among private pilots and flying clubs due to its affordability and ease of handling. Its air-cooled, inline six-cylinder de Havilland Gipsy Major engine delivered a top speed of 103 mph and a range of around 450 miles. The aircraft's open cockpit design allowed for an unobstructed view of the surroundings, making it an ideal choice for leisurely flights and cross-country journeys. In this image, G-AFPN appears to be taking off from a grass airfield, its wings slicing through the air as it gathers speed. The pilot, dressed in a leather flying helmet and goggles, confidently guides the aircraft down the runway. The sun casts a warm glow over the scene, creating a serene and picturesque moment in aviation history. The Moth Minor's timeless design and enduring appeal continue to captivate aviation enthusiasts and collectors to this day.
