Site of Baden Powell House, South Kensington, London
The site (left) of Baden Powell House, Queens Gate, South Kensington, London, before an older building was demolished and the new one built. The site was acquired in 1956, and Ralph Tubbs was appointed architect. The foundation stone was laid by Lady Olave Baden Powell in 1959, and the building was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1961. The building received a number of awards. It is still used today as a scouting hostel and conference venue. Date: circa 1956
