EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we see a group of determined Holmfirth High School pupils fighting to keep Britain beautiful. From left to right, Ben Steele, Jonathan Trollope, Robert Goddard, Simon Thompson, Penny Gibbins and Lorna Rees stand united in their mission. The Holme Valley Civic Society organized a clean-up at Hays Wood in Thongsbridge near the Woodland estate. With unwavering dedication, these teenagers cleared away an astonishing amount of rubbish that had been carelessly discarded. Among the items they found were a bedstead and various car parts. It was no small task as it took them an entire day to complete the cleanup. Brian Cropper, a member of the Civic Society executive committee and organizer of this event, estimated that there was still four or five skipfuls worth of rubbish remaining in the wood. Undeterred by this daunting prospect, he expressed his hope for another clearing session in the near future. This powerful image captures not only their hard work but also their commitment to preserving nature and protecting our environment. These young individuals are shining examples of responsible citizenship and serve as an inspiration for others to follow suit. Taken on June 20th in 1985 during the vibrant era of the 1980s, this photograph is a testament to youth activism and community spirit. Let us remember their efforts as we strive towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable world for generations to come.
