The whole island appears to have been turned over to the harvesting and drying of mangrove bark, operated by a French Company, which I assume was being managed by Monsieur Gilbert at this time.... Situated approximately 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) southwest of Mahe Island, Picault Island appears to have been dedicated to the harvesting and drying of mangrove bark at this time.
