Coat of arms copperplate 17th century Thompson and Chauncy
This image is from a copperplate engraving, and shows part of a roll of arms from Richard Blomes Britannia, an atlas published in 1673. It features the coats of arms of people who contributed towards the completion of the work a starting with King Charles II. Each page includes 35 coats of arms, presented here in groups of two. These coats of arms are from folio (page) 10 of the work. In old English, ans appeared as a longs (which looks like an f ), while ss appeared as fs. Com was an abbreviation for County. A number is assigned to each benefactor. Here are the accompanying texts (followed by modernised English where appropriate): 292. Iohn THOMSON of Haverfham in Com Bucks Efq (John Thomson / Thompson; Haversham, Bucks). Lived from 1648 to 1710. 297. Henry CHANCEY of yardleybury in Com Hartford Efq (Henry Chauncy; Yardley Bury, Hertfordshire)

This print showcases a stunning copperplate engraving from the 17th century, featuring a portion of a roll of arms from Richard Blome's Britannia atlas. Published in 1673, this intricate artwork pays tribute to individuals who contributed to the completion of the work, starting with King Charles II. Each page presents 35 coats of arms, and here we see two groups on folio (page) 10. The coats of arms depicted in this image are accompanied by texts that have been modernized for easier understanding. The first coat belongs to John Thomson or Thompson from Haversham in Buckinghamshire (Com Bucks), who lived between 1648 and 1710. The second coat represents Henry Chauncy from Yardley Bury in Hertfordshire (Com Hartford). This antique engraved image not only serves as a historical publication but also reflects the deep-rooted traditions and culture of British society. It symbolizes friendship, family ties, and acknowledges those who played significant roles during that era. Displayed on ornate paper, this decorative sign embodies the essence of English heritage. Its heraldic significance is evident through its armorial design meticulously etched onto copperplate. This remarkable print transports us back to an enchanting period when artistry flourished. With its rich history and exquisite craftsmanship captured by Mervyn Peake's artistic talent, this print evokes admiration for traditional culture while offering a glimpse into England's past glory.
