"This stunning 18th century illustration depicts a female Damaliscus pygargus, or Bontebok, an antelope species native to South Africa. The painting was created by George Forster during Captain James Cook's second voyage of discovery, which took place between 1772 and 1775. The Bontebok is an even-toed ungulate, belonging to the family Bovidae and the subfamily Alcelaphinae.
