Italian Venetian painter and printmaker Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770), worked not only in Italy, but also in Germany and Spain. He was commissioned to carry out frescoes in churches and palaces, and was elected President of the Academy of Padua. As well as his large-scale majestic works, he also produced etchings and oil paintings, and is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of the period. This print showcases "Two Oriental Merchants" by Italian Venetian painter and printmaker Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Created in 1753 as a chalk on paper study for the Africa section of frescoes in the Würzburg Residence, Germany, this artwork is now housed in the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart. Tiepolo's artistic genius extended beyond Italy, as he also worked extensively in Germany and Spain. Known for his grand frescoes adorning churches and palaces, Tiepolo was elected President of the Academy of Padua during his illustrious career.
