This photograph showcases Douglas Dakota 3, registration G-AMNW, also known as Frank Searle, with the Manufacturer's Serial Number (MSN) 14177. Originally built as a C-47A military transport aircraft for the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) with the serial number 43-48361, this Douglas Dakota underwent civilian conversion post-World War II, becoming a member of the British European Airways (BEA) fleet under the name Pionair-Class. The image captures the aircraft in its prime during the 1950s, with its distinctive Douglas livery and propellers turning in mid-flight. RAF serial KJ838 adorns the side of the aircraft, reflecting its previous military service. The Douglas Dakota 3, G-AMNW, was eventually withdrawn from use at Southend in February 1966, marking the end of an era for this iconic aircraft.
