The Swamp Harrier is a native bird of prey endemic to New Zealand and is a member of the Accipitridae family within the order Accipitriformes. This bird of prey is characterized by its distinctive rufous-brown plumage, broad wings, and long, powerful legs. The young Swamp Harrier, depicted on the left, displays a speckled brown and white plumage, which provides excellent camouflage as it learns to hunt and fly from its parents.
