HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) causes AIDS. Four viruses are seen in different stages of budding: at centre left the virus acquires its coat from the cell membrane (green); at right the virus buds from the cell; at centre right budding is almost complete; at left the new virus is free-floating. This print showcases a coloured Transmission Electron Micrograph (TEM) of HIV viruses in the process of budding from an infected T-lymphocyte human blood cell. The bottom part of the image reveals the pink-colored cell, which is under attack by the notorious Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), responsible for causing AIDS. In this intricate visual, four distinct stages of viral budding can be observed. Towards the center-left, one virus is acquiring its coat from the cell membrane, depicted in a vibrant green hue. At the right side, another virus is seen detaching itself from the host cell and beginning its independent journey. Moving towards the center-right, budding reaches an advanced stage as one virus prepares to break free completely. Finally, on the left side of this mesmerizing TEM image, a new virus can be spotted floating freely. Once released into circulation after completing their budding process, these HIV viruses carry central RNA strands represented by striking red coloring.
