Artists concept of a young, turbulent Earth
A young Earth is shrouded in turbulent, roiling clouds, while under the shadow of its night side can be seen flashes of lightning and the ruddy glow of volcanoes and lava fields illuminating the clouds from beneath. The space around the Earth is highlighted by remnants of the nebula from which the Solar System was born. On the upper right is the Earths Moon whose lava-filled scars from massive impacts are still cooling.
500 million years after its molten birth the Earths surface would have cooled enough for a solid crust to form, and gases delivered by comets and emissions from within would have contributed to the Earths first, albeit primitive, atmosphere

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print depicts an artist's concept of a young and turbulent Earth. The image showcases the planet enveloped in swirling, roiling clouds, symbolizing its early stages of formation. Illuminating the night side are flashes of lightning and the fiery glow emanating from volcanoes and lava fields beneath. Surrounding the Earth is a celestial backdrop adorned with remnants of the nebula that birthed our Solar System. Intriguingly, on the upper right corner lies our faithful companion, the Moon, bearing visible scars from colossal impacts as it continues to cool down. This artwork transports us back 500 million years after Earth's molten birth when its surface had cooled enough for a solid crust to form. Comets delivered gases while internal emissions contributed to shaping our planet's first primitive atmosphere. The illustration evokes wonder about Earth's ancient history during its Hadean and Precambrian eras. It invites contemplation on cosmic evolution, planetary science, and space weather phenomena like lightning bolts amidst volcanic activity. Walter Myers skillfully brings together elements of science fiction and imagination in this surreal rendition of our world's primordial past. Through this visually stunning piece, we embark on a journey through time and space—discovering distant worlds while appreciating our own remarkable origins.
