The planet was not directly photographed but indirectly detected by its gravitational pull on the star. The planet is one of the smallest found so far; it is at least 70 percent the mass of Saturn.
The planet is in an elliptical orbit about the star, which carries it closer to the star than Mercury is to our sun. The planets average distance is only 35 percent that of Earths distance from the Sun. The planets average temperature is a scorching 1530 degrees Fahrenheit (830 degrees Celsius), and it presumably has a thick atmosphere.
The moons and rings shown in this illustration are hypothetical. All gas giant planets in our solar system have ring systems and multiple satellites, so it is expected that extrasolar gas giants should have them as well
