Putto with Garland, c1510, (c1912). Artist: Raphael

Putto with Garland, c1510, (c1912). Fragment of fresco, in the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, Rome, Italy. Part of a large decorative work in the Raphael Rooms (Italian: Stanze di Raffaello) in the Palace of the Vatican in Rome. Italian High Renaissance painter and architect Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520), known as Raphael, left a large body of work despite his death at 37. He spent time in Florence, as well as twelve years in Rome working for two Popes. He is regarded as one of the most important artists of his time, with his work being held in museums and galleries around the world. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Raphael's exquisite artwork titled "Putto with Garland" from around 1510. The fragment of fresco is currently housed in the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, Rome, Italy. This particular piece was part of a larger decorative work found in the renowned Raphael Rooms within the Palace of the Vatican. Raphael, an Italian High Renaissance painter and architect, left behind a remarkable legacy despite his untimely death at just 37 years old. Spending time both in Florence and Rome working for two Popes, he created numerous frescoes, oil paintings on religious and mythological themes, as well as portraits. Additionally, he contributed to plans for St Peter's Basilica in Rome. Considered one of the most significant artists of his era, Raphael's works are treasured by museums and galleries worldwide. His mastery can be seen through this illustration featured in "Raphael - Masterpieces in Colour" authored by Paul G Konody. The image portrays a cherubic putto adorned with a garland—a symbol often associated with celebration or victory—depicting Raphael's exceptional ability to capture beauty and grace. The subtle use of color adds depth to this enchanting composition. Through this photo print, viewers are transported back to the 16th century when Raphael's talent flourished during the Italian Renaissance period. It serves as a testament to his enduring influence on art history and reminds us why his works continue to captivate audiences even today.
