Suns orbit from Earth, 1708

Suns orbit from Earth. This is plate 17 from the 1708 edition of the star atlas Harmonica Macrocosmica by the Dutch-German mathematician and cosmographer Andreas Cellarius (1596-1665). This diagram shows the spiral orbit traced by the Sun, as seen from the Earth. The celestial circles and the constellations of the zodiac (coloured ring) are also shown. Various putti adorn the border, while the Latin title is split between upper left and lower right. Harmonica Macrocosmica, first published in 1660, had 30 colour plates with Latin text.
