Breathing research

Breathing research. Medical researcher observing a woman exercising as equipment is used to monitor her breathing. This is a functional diagnostics laboratory in Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia. This laboratory was established by Kostantin Buteyko (1923-2003), the doctor who pioneered a breathing technique named after him, which is often used to treat asthma. In the 1960s, Buteyko treated over 1000 people at his laboratory and carried out much research into the physiology of breathing. The Novosibirsk Science Centre is one of the research centres that were founded in Siberia in the 1960s by the Soviet government. Photographed in 1987
