Four Enchanting Costumes for the Eclipse Ball at the Park Lane Hotel, London, 17 December 1930 The Eclipse Ball, a pageant event held at the prestigious Park Lane Hotel in London on 17 December 1930, was an imaginative and fancy affair in aid of St John's Hospital, Lewisham. With a theme of "A Thousand and One Lights," sixty performers graced the stage, each donning elaborate and captivating costumes. Shown here are four of the most stunning costumes from the evening. The first, a Victorian Angel, was worn by Mrs Douglas Cory-Wright. Her costume featured a voluminous crinoline skirt, a white satin bodice adorned with lace and pearls, and a pair of magnificent wings that seemed to have been plucked straight from the heavens. The second costume, Sunset, was modeled by the elegant Miss Margaret Whigham. Her dress was a beautiful shade of orange, reminiscent of the setting sun. The dress was adorned with intricate gold embroidery and a headdress of sunrays, complete with a golden spear. Storm was the name of the costume worn by the graceful Mrs Robertson. Her dress was a dark, swirling ensemble, representing the tumultuous weather of a storm. The headdress was a magnificent creation, with a cascade of silver beads and feathers that seemed to mimic the rain. Lastly, Lady Mary Lygon dazzled the crowd as a Roman Angel. Her costume was a stunning representation of ancient Roman attire, with a gold and red toga, intricate gold headdress, and a pair of wings that shimmered in the light. These four costumes, along with the other sixty, added to the magical and enchanting atmosphere of the Eclipse Ball, making it a night to remember for all those in attendance.
