Meat kebab, thermogram

Meat kebab. Thermogram of a cooked meat kebab on a plate. The colours show variations in temperature. The scale runs from white (warmest), through red, yellow, green and blue to purple (coldest). Thermography records the temperature of surfaces by detecting long-wavelength infrared radiation. The meat is not uniformly hot, and this may lead to food poisoning if pathogenic micro-organisms have not been killed by the cooking. Heat from the kebab has also caused a heat shadow on the plate (blue streaks)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of a delicious meat kebab like never before. The thermogram reveals intricate details of the cooked meat, showcased on a plate. The vibrant colors displayed in this image represent variations in temperature, with white indicating the warmest areas and purple representing the coldest. Through the technique of thermography, which detects long-wavelength infrared radiation, we gain insight into surface temperatures. This visual representation serves as a reminder that not all parts of our food may be uniformly hot after cooking. It highlights potential risks such as food poisoning if pathogenic micro-organisms have not been effectively eliminated during preparation. Moreover, this stunning image showcases how heat from the kebab has left its mark on the plate through mesmerizing blue streaks - an intriguing phenomenon known as a heat shadow. With its scientific approach and cutting-edge technology, this photograph demonstrates how thermal sensing can provide valuable insights into our culinary experiences. It prompts us to consider factors such as temperature control when preparing meals to ensure both taste and safety. Intriguingly captured by Science Photo Library's expertise in photography and their utilization of infra-red technology, this thought-provoking image invites us to appreciate both the artistry behind it and reflect upon important aspects of food hygiene and preparation techniques.
