Taken in the summer of 1916, it shows Hannah Powell-Cotton, the Commandant of the Quex Park VAD Hospital, surrounded by her daughters and a young boy, Ray Cook, son of the children's nanny. Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton, the founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum and husband of Hannah, had set up a camp for his daughters using tents from his own expeditions.
