Artists concept of the Kepler-11 planetary system

Kepler 11 has been discovered to host a solar system of at least six planets with comparable sizes to the Earth. This high number makes the solar system unique among the ones discovered so far. The planets are extremely close to each other, and all are more massive than Earth. This system would fit within the orbit of Venus. The planet furthest away, Kepler 11g is only 69 million km away from the star. How the planets can be so close to each other, and the star is a fact that strongly challenges our models of how solar systems form. All the planets have low densities and seem to contain a significant amount of light gases. Planets from left to right: Kepler 11g, 11e, 11f, 11d, 11b, 11c

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the artist's concept of the Kepler-11 planetary system, a truly remarkable discovery in our vast universe. Unlike any other solar system found thus far, Kepler 11 hosts at least six planets that bear striking similarities to Earth in terms of size. What sets this system apart is not only its high number of planets but also their incredibly close proximity to one another. Surprisingly, all these planets are more massive than Earth and could easily fit within the orbit of Venus. The furthest planet from the star, Kepler 11g, lies a mere 69 million kilometers away. This mind-boggling arrangement challenges our existing models on how solar systems form and raises intriguing questions about their formation. Adding to the mystery, each planet possesses low densities and appears to contain significant amounts of light gases. The visually stunning artwork depicts these celestial bodies from left to right: Kepler 11g, 11e, 11f, 11d, 11b, and finally Kepler 11c. With its luminous glow and sun-like characteristics, this compact system offers scientists an extraordinary opportunity for space exploration and further understanding of astrophysics. As we delve into this science fiction-like rendition through digitally generated images like this one by Fahad Sulehria from Stocktrek Images; we embark on a journey that unveils new frontiers in planetary science while igniting our imagination about what lies beyond our own world.
