Bladder expansion, artwork

Bladder expansion. Sequential artwork showing the external structure of an expanding bladder. Successive shades of lighter pink show the bladder expanding greatly in volume from its resting state. It is the wrinkled bladder wall that allows this expansion to contain a large volume of urine if needed, though typical volume at urination is around 300 millilitres. The bladder receives and stores urine from the kidneys through the ureters (tubes at lower right). The urine, which contains nitrogenous waste such as urea, is stored in the bladder. The urine is removed from the body by urination through the urethra (lower centre)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Bladder Expansion" showcases the intricate external structure of a bladder as it expands in volume. The sequential artwork beautifully portrays the process, with successive shades of lighter pink indicating the significant expansion from its resting state. The wrinkled bladder wall plays a crucial role in accommodating a large volume of urine if necessary, although the average amount released during urination is around 300 millilitres. The bladder serves as a storage unit for urine received from the kidneys through two ureters depicted at the lower right corner. This vital organ retains and holds onto urine, which contains nitrogenous waste like urea. When it's time to eliminate this waste from our bodies, urination occurs through the central urethra shown at the lower centre. This illustration not only provides an insightful glimpse into normal anatomy but also highlights how our biological systems function harmoniously. It offers valuable information about urinary system dynamics and sheds light on various aspects related to urology and excretory processes. Displayed against a cut-out background, this artistic representation captures both scientific accuracy and aesthetic appeal. Created by Science Photo Library, this visually striking piece invites viewers to appreciate both the complexity and beauty found within our own bodies while emphasizing healthy biology and anatomical functionality
