Z-Z DNA junction, molecular model C016 / 1539
Z-Z DNA junction. Molecular model of a junction between two left-handed DNA double helices (Z DNA, down centre) stabilised by the Z alpha domain of the human RNA-editing enzyme ADAR1 (double-stranded RNA adenosine deaminase, right and left). ADAR1 de-stabilises double stranded RNA (ribonucleic acid) by converting adenosine to inosine in the genetic sequence. ADAR1 is needed for the breakdown of adenosine from food and for the turnover of nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) in tissues

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a molecular model of a Z-Z DNA junction, offering a mesmerizing glimpse into the intricate world of biology. The image depicts two left-handed DNA double helices (known as Z DNA) converging at the center, with the Z alpha domain of the human RNA-editing enzyme ADAR1 stabilizing this unique structure. ADAR1 plays a crucial role in de-stabilizing double-stranded RNA by converting adenosine to inosine within the genetic sequence. This process is essential for breaking down adenosine from food and facilitating turnover of nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) in tissues. The black background intensifies the visual impact, allowing us to focus on the complex arrangement of molecules and proteins that make up this fascinating junction. Every detail has been meticulously captured, highlighting both its artistic beauty and scientific significance. This artwork not only serves as an aesthetic masterpiece but also provides valuable insights into biochemistry and genetics. It represents years of research and discovery condensed into one visually stunning representation. LAGUNA DESIGN/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY has skillfully crafted this illustration, presenting us with an opportunity to appreciate the wonders hidden within our own cells. Whether you are a scientist or simply captivated by nature's complexity, this print invites you to explore the boundless possibilities that lie within our biological makeup.
